Started in 2012 by musicians and locals, the festival celebrates independent music under open skies, with performances by emerging and established artists from India and abroad. Genres range from folk and indie rock to experimental and fusion sounds — all performed on eco-friendly bamboo stages that blend beautifully with the surrounding landscape.

What makes Ziro truly special is its vibe — laid-back, inclusive, and community-driven. Festival-goers camp under starlit skies, wake up to mountain views, and spend their days listening to music, interacting with artists, or exploring local Apatani culture.

The Ziro Valley itself is a highlight — a UNESCO Tentative World Heritage Site, known for its scenic paddy fields, pine hills, and the warm hospitality of the Apatani tribe, who host visitors in homestays and offer glimpses into their sustainable way of life.



Best time to visit: The festival usually takes place in late September, when the weather is pleasant and the valley is lush green.

How to reach: Ziro is about 115 km from Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh. The nearest airport and railway station is at Naharlagun, with shared taxis or private cars covering the final stretch. Inner Line Permits (ILP) are mandatory for Indian visitors, and Protected Area Permits (PAP) for foreigners.

The Ziro Music Festival is more than just a music event — it’s an experience that fuses music, nature, and culture in one of India’s most unspoiled corners.
